The final start list is set for the 2019 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships in Poznan, Poland August 28 – September 1.
2429 amateur racers representing 59 countries are confirmed to race, with 1931 chasing a gold medal and coveted rainbow jersey in the gran fondo and 498 trying to ride as aero as possible to claim a world time trial title.
British riders by almost 2:1 are once again the biggest team with 478 entries. 265 riders from host country Poland will try to use via home-field advantage to win. Other large teams include France 125, Belgium 123, Italy 123 and Australia 122.
North American riders hoping to bring a gran fondo world championship back across the Atlantic include 53 from USA, 41 Canada and 21 Mexico.
Canadian Bruce Bird, who is the reining 45-49 UCI Amateur World Champion in the gran fondo and time trail, is looking to add to his rainbow jersey collection after finishing 21st against rides half his age at the Canadian National Championships in June.
