Former professional Alberto Nardin (MG.K Vis-Promotech-FMB) won L’Étape Mondovì by Tour de France for the second year running, while Martina Cavallo (OM.CC), this year’s winner of the GFNY World Championship, took the women’s title on Sunday 20 September in the Piemonte wine region of Italy.
Nardin, 36, who rode for the Italian professional Androni Giocattoli team in 2015 and 2016, finished the roughly 110-kilometre granfondo in 03:01:14. The route crossed the Alta Langa and Monregalese hills, with more than 2,000 metres of climbing. Danilo Celano (ASD Team Go Fast) was second, 5 seconds behind, and Ivan Martinelli (Team Go Fast) was third, 16 seconds back. Matteo Raimondi (Team Locca) was fourth, 1 minute 4 seconds behind. Nardin also won last year’s edition, which was then called Granfondo Alpi del Mare.
In the women’s race, Cavallo finished in 03:19:39, reversing the 2025 order. Teammate Annalisa Prato (OM.CC), last year’s winner and the L’Étape Piemonte champion in Entracque on 31 May, was second, 2 minutes 41 seconds behind. Mara Manfredi (ASD Programma Auto) was third, 13 minutes 11 seconds back.
Cavallo’s victory extends a standout season for the 36-year-old Italian. She won the women’s Gran Fondo Strade Bianche in March in 04:23:16, finishing 1 minute 6 seconds ahead of Canadian Michelle Gagnon. A few weeks later in May she won the GFNY World Championship in 03:45:01, 27 seconds clear of OM.CC teammate Anna Ceoloni. In July, she was second at both the Maratona dles Dolomites and the famous L’Étape du Tour.
About 2,000 riders participated in the event, which is part of the worldwide L’Étape by Tour de France amateur granfondo series.
