The Wolf, a new addition to the UCI Gravel World Series, held its first edition on Saturday 05 September in the Jyske Ås region of North Jutland, doubling as the Danish Nordic Championship and round three of the DCU Gravel Cup. The 52-kilometre lap combined steep, punchy climbs, technical singletrack and rugged forest roads through Dronninglund Storskov, producing a demanding test despite Denmark’s famously flat reputation. Elite women tackled two laps (104 km), while the men’s race covered three (156 km).
In the elite women’s race, Germany’s Romy Kasper, a longtime WorldTour road professional now competing for gravel squad PAS Racing, soloed to victory in 03:17:34. The Netherlands’ Elisa Serné, the reigning UCI Gravel World Champion in her age category, finished 56 seconds back, with teammate Wendy Oosterwoud completing the podium 1 minute 26 seconds down.
The men’s race went to local rider Andreas Stokbro Nielsen, who crossed the line in 04:18:56 after three laps. A former WorldTour road professional with NTT Pro Cycling, the 29-year-old now splits his season between Team ColoQuick on the road and Swatt Club on gravel. Gustav Frederik Dahl (Team Give Steel) held off Team Cranks’ Rasmus Bøgh Wallin in a photo-finish sprint for second, with both riders arriving 51 seconds later, while Simon Bak completed an all-Danish top four.
The Wolf is one of 45 events in this year’s GravelKing UCI Gravel World Series, the qualification pathway to the UCI Gravel World Championships, set for 10-11 October in Nannup, Western Australia. Competitors finishing in the top 25% of their age group qualify to compete at the worlds.
