Mexican triathlete Tomás Rodríguez Hernández has been provisionally suspended a second time, just weeks after completing a two-year ban from sport, according to the latest International testing Agency (ITA) Anti-Doping Rule Violations List.
Rodríguez Hernández’s original suspension ran from Thursday 06 June 2024 to Friday 05 June 2026. It followed a positive test for clomifene, a hormone and metabolic modulator, collected during in-competition testing at the 2024 Ironman Texas. Although he crossed the finish line first, with a marathon split of 02:34:14 to break the course record, he was stripped of the result and the title was reassigned to Germany’s Patrick Lange, who finished second.
The ITA confirmed the new case in early September, disclosing the provisional suspension took effect Tuesday 23 June 2026. The case is listed as two World Anti-Doping Code charges: Article 2.5, tampering, and Article 10.14, violation of the prohibition of participation during ineligibility.
No further details of the alleged offences have been made public.
Under the World Anti-Doping Code, if the violations are confirmed Rodríguez Hernández may be subjected to another round of sanctions.
Throughout his first suspension, the 25-year-old maintained his innocence, saying he accepted the sanction without admitting to intentional doping. He had also signalled on social media earlier this year that he intended to return to competition.
