25,000 United Kingdom cyclists will not participate in the Ride London festival of cycling for a second straight year due to the ongoing pandemic.
The event, including the very popular 100-mile Ride London cyclosportive, was due to take place on May 30.
A statement from organisers and London authorities said: “It has been confirmed today that the Ride London festival of cycling, scheduled for the end of May 2021, will not take place due to the coronavirus pandemic.”
Ride London organisers struggled for months to put together a workable plan for the 2021 pandemic edition, but with the extensive road closures required to put on the festival, community support waning and the huge number of participants and spectators, a decision has been made to forego this year’s edition and concentrate on bringing the event back in 2022.
