Following the announcement on 11 January by the South African government cancelling mass participation sporting events due to COVID19, the promoter of the 99er Cycle Tour has cancelled the 2021 amateur event.

The 23rd edition was scheduled to take place on 13 February in Cape Town with over 2500 participants.

“The decision was made after careful consideration of the current number of Covid-19 cases in the Western Cape and the restrictions on events and sporting activities” says race organiser Morne Vorster. “We look forward to the time when sporting activities can take place safely again and urge all our loyal cyclists to stay safe at this time.”

The 99er Cycle Tour is the 3rd largest cycling event in the country and will return in 2022 on Saturday 12 February.
