Italy’s newest multi-day gran fondo, El Diablo Cycling Festival organized by former pro rider Claudio Chiapucci, is scheduled for the weekend of 9-11 April 2021 in Porto Sant’Elpidio.

The three day three stage race format for amateur cyclists starts with a 13 kilometre opening time trial on Friday along the Adriatic seafront, followed by the 91 kilometre Gran Fondo Porto Sant’Elpidio on Saturday and concludes with the 129 kilometre Gran Fondo Tre Santuari on Sunday.

Commenting on the stage race format Chiaucci said, “It is a fascinating format with the time trial start on the seafront and then the two gran fondos with suggestive and not overly hard routes that give the opportunity to showcase the region’s great cycling.”

Cyclists may ride one, two or all three events with general classification prizes awarded at the conclusion of Sunday’s race based on total cumulative time.

Claudio Chiappucci, nicknamed “El Diablo” for his impetuous and always on the attack racing style, is known for winning the classic monument Milan-Sanremo in 1991, three Tour de France stages and one in the Giro d’Italia, Tre Valli Varesine and a silver medal at the 1994 World Road Championships in Agrigento, Italy.
