UCI World Tour professional cyclist Nairo Quintana hopes the third time’s  the charm when he tries to holding his El Gran Fondo Nairo on 13 June 2021 after cancelling the event twice due to COVID.

The Team Arkéa cyclist confirmed that the event is postponed for five  months due to COVID and will not take place on 24 January.  The event was originally scheduled on 29 November 2020, but it too was cancelled due to the COVID situation in Colombia.

Announcing the cancellation and date change Quintana said, “We have to take care of our peloton and the Gran Fondo will be on June 13.”

Over 3000 riders have registered for the 130km mountainous event that host in Villa de Leyva.

El Gran Fondo Nairo takes place only two weeks before the start of the 2021 Tour de France, in which Quintana plans to compete for the overall title.  He is a three-time podium finisher in the Tour, but struggled with injury in 2020 and ended his season early due to knee problems.
