Jia Zhichao and Zhang Xixi, both from China, earned victory at the 2020 Colorful Yunnan International Gran Fondo in Yuxi, Yunnan Provence on Sunday 29 November.

Due to COVID19, the event was reduced to a single-stage 108km race in Chengjiang-Yuxi, intead of the traditional six stage 600km week-long race that crisscrosses Southwest China.

Zhichao won the Men’s race in 3:02:10 from a field of 400+ cyclists  after racing 90km solo and building a 10+ minute gap over second place Baimo Gong (3:12:36) and Dan Zhi Luo (03:13:42).

From a field of 42 competitors Xixi won the Women’s Race in 3:28:14 with Yan Jiao Gao next at 3:32:24 and Zi Yu Li finishing third at 3:37:29.

“The hardest part for me was the descent after the first climb as there are many curves and the top of the mountain was foggy. Fortunately, it didn’t rain,” Zhang told Xinhua News after winning the Women’s Race.

With organization that rivals even the Tour de France, Colorful Gran Fondo Yunnan participants enjoyed riding on fully closed roads, start-to-finish cheering spectators, a grandiose cultural show and some of the most picturesque scenery in Southwest China.

Granfondo Yunnan plans to return to its traditional week-long stage race format in November 2021 for the 8th edition.
