The long running joke is that dentists make a lot of money and buy really expensive bikes. It used to be a Cervelo joke, but now every brand has expensive bikes dentists can buy.
On May 5th a lot of really expensive dentist bikes with real dentists on-board will race for the Italian Dentists Championship at Granfondo Via Del Sale in Cervia, Italy on the Adriatic coast.
I’m not kidding. Only in Italy. A championship race for dentists.
These guys have been training hard all spring and are willing to take a bite out of the competition to win the coveted “Campionato Ortodontista” crown.
Starting from the seafront with 5000 other Granfondo Via Del Sale riders, the dentists will cover 174km over 5 categorized climbs (including Cima Pantani) with 2400m of vertical gain.
Last year, Tommaso Bovi riding for Team Iso-Sistem Technologie won in 05:11:42, beating Domenico Mazzei from team ASD Boario by 5 minutes.
Bovi is back to defend his title crown.
I bet he drills it from the start.
