Cary Moretti, 58, a Canadian road and gravel cyclist now living in London, England, is recovering from a serious spinal injury sustained in a collision with a bus while training during the week of Sunday 04 October 2026.

Moretti, originally from Ontario, moved to London about 18 months ago. His coach, Nigel R Gray of NRG Performance Training, said in a Facebook post that Moretti fractured vertebrae from C1 to C6 and suffered a spinal cord contusion. He is currently unable to move his arms or legs. Gray wrote that the spinal cord is not compressed and that feeling and movement may return as the swelling subsides, although much remains uncertain. He added that Moretti is in good spirits.

Friends have launched a GoFundMe campaign to support intensive private rehabilitation after Moretti’s discharge from hospital, citing the limited therapy hours available through the National Health Service (NHS). As of Saturday 24 October, ÂŁ34,216 (C$64,023) had been raised. Supporters have also created a Strava group, Miles for Cary, and are encouraging riders to tag their rides #MilesForCary.

Moretti is a familiar name in Ontario amateur racing. In June 2023, he won the 55–59 age category at the Blue Mountains Gravel Fondo, a UCI Gravel World Series qualifier, in 04:15:27. At the 2024 edition, he finished second in the category behind multiple world champion Bruce Bird. Moretti also qualified for the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships in 2017 after finishing third at the Blue Mountains Gran Fondo.

The circumstances of the collision have not been made public.
