Tofik Beshir, the up-and-coming 19-year-old who won the 2026 US Cyclocross Series, is in a Level 1 trauma centre after a head-on collision during a training ride on Thursday, 8 October 2026.

Beshir (CXD Trek Bikes) was riding on a gravel road near Lees-McRae College in western North Carolina, where he recently began his studies, when the collision occured. He was transported to Johnson City Medical Center in Tennessee, the region’s only Level 1 trauma centre, where he remains with his parents at his side.

A family-linked GoFundMe page describes his injuries as consistent with brain shear trauma and says he had not yet regained consciousness. Further details are limited, with the page stating that updates will follow as more information becomes available. The fundraising goal is $200,000 to cover his care, with $70,000 donated at press time.

Born in Ethiopia and raised in Arlington, Virginia, Beshir has emerged as a rising name in American cyclocross, with several consistent seasons in the junior and under-23 ranks. This autumn, he stepped up to the elite level, winning five of the six races in the series, including two UCI C1 events, and clinching the overall title at Charm City Cross in Baltimore.

His first C1 victory came at Virginia’s Blue Ridge GO Cross in Roanoke, where he beat Tyler Clark by 42 seconds after attacking with three laps remaining. At the time, he said he had waited a long time for that result.

Gran Fondo Daily News extends its best wishes to Tofik, his family, teammates and the wider cyclocross community.
