On Friday, French cyclist Ronan Augé of Unibet Rose Rockets was placed in a medically induced coma after crashing on Stage 6 of the Tour of Langkawi in Malaysia. The 22-year-old sprinter was taken to hospital.
The team reports that his condition is stable and not life-threatening and that the coma is intended to optimise his treatment. It added that it is in close contact with the medical team in Malaysia. The cause of the crash has not been reported.
The incident happened on Friday during the 30th edition of the week-long stage race, where Augé had already earned two fourth-place finishes. The 121.3 km stage ran from Pandan Indah to Rembau, with Canadian Riley Pickrell of Modern Adventure Pro Cycling winning in 02:40:06.
The son of former professional cyclist Stéphane Augé, Ronan came through Groupama-FDJ’s development team, signed with Unibet Rose Rockets this season and is contracted through the end of 2027. His competition schedule this season included Paris-Roubaix, In Flanders Fields, Eschborn-Frankfurt and the E3 Saxo Classic.
Gran Fondo Daily News wishes Ronan Augé a full and swift recovery.
