Italy’s National Anti-Doping Tribunal (TNA) has provisionally suspended Sardinian amateur cyclist Gianluca Usai, NADO Italia announced on Wednesday 30 September.

Acting on a request from the National Anti-Doping Prosecution Office, the tribunal suspended the Italian Cycling Federation (FCI) licence holder for alleged violations of Articles 2.1 and 2.2 of the Italian Anti-Doping Sports Code. Those articles cover the presence and use of a prohibited substance. NADO Italia ordered the test. The notice does not name a substance, the location where the control took place or a possible sanction.

A provisional suspension is not a finding of guilt. Usai can defend himself before the tribunal, which will make a final decision on the case. Under NADO Italia rules, suspended athletes may not take part in any sanctioned sport competition or activity while the provisional suspension is in effect.

FCI lists Usai in the M1 (30-34 men’s masters) category, riding for C.C. Acido Lattico, a Sardinian club. He has been a consistent top-10 finisher this season. In March, he was second at the Giganti di Monte Prama in Cabras, sixth at the FCI Regional Masters Road Championship in May and fifth at Trofeo Dell’anglona Citta’ Di Perfugas in June.

The suspension follows NADO Italia recently wrapping up two 2026 amateur anti-doping cases, both involving masters riders also charged with violations of Articles 2.1 and 2.2. FCI records show Vincenzo Salierno was banned for three years, while Carmelo Aiello received a four-year ban.
