Germans won both elite races at 226ERS Gravel Sea Otter Europe Girona on Saturday morning, according to provisional results.

MTB cross-country specialist Leon Kaiser (Avona) took the men’s win in 03:03:57 after a four-rider sprint on the 109-kilometre course, which includes 940 metres of vertical ascent. The 26-year-old averaged 35.62 kilometres per hour. Paul Voss (Rose Bikes) and Fabian Rabensteiner (Torpado Kenda FSA) both finished 1 second back, with Georg Egger (Orbea Speed Company) 8 seconds behind. Road.cc reported that Kaiser won on new prototype 32-inch gravel wheels.

Defending champion Daan Soete placed sixth, 3 minutes 14 seconds behind.

In the women’s race, 30-year-old Rosa Klöser (Canyon-SRAM zondacrypto) won in 03:23:18. Larissa Hartog (Canyon DT Swiss ATR) crossed the line 2 minutes 41 seconds later. Former world gravel champion Marianne Vos (Visma | Lease a Bike) was third, 6 minutes 29 seconds back, and 6 seconds ahead of Geerike Schreurs (Specialized-Offroad). Klöser also won The Traka 360 in Girona in May.

The top 25% of each UCI category earn starting places at the UCI Gravel World Championships on 10 and 11 October in Nannup, Western Australia, the first edition to be held outside Europe. Final qualifiers will be confirmed once the results are ratified.
