The ADAC Brezel Race Region Stuttgart rolled out from Tamm, Germany, for the first time on Sunday 13 September, and Team Strassacker made the 99.3-kilometre long course look like a Sunday training ride, winning overall and filling eight of the top 10 places.
Marvin Schmid, 19, took the win in 02:27:58, sharing the same finishing time as teammate Fabian Thiele after the pair crossed the line together. A third Strassacker rider, Moritz Palm, was just 1 second back in third. Yannick Ruschmeier of Fastlane Collective was the highest finisher outside the club, in fourth.
Strassacker riders also finishing in the top ten: Niles Kessler (5th), Florian Sauer (6th), Marc Hepperle (8th), Dennis Höllige (9th) and Benediky Fundel (10th).
Founded in 2000 and backed by the Strassacker art foundry in Baden-Württemberg, the team is among Germany’s most established amateur racing outfits, also fielding riders at events such as Rad am Ring and Tour Transalp.
In the women’s long race, Joana Sartorius, 31, of Salzstürmer rode clear of all challengers to win solo in 02:45:43, almost 4 minutes ahead of runner-up Maite Schütz and over 5 minutes up on Hannah Studer in third place.
On the shorter 52.7-kilometre course, Sebastian Gaedicke of MTV Stuttgart Triathlon won a tight bunch sprint in 01:26:19, while Nina Gminder led the women’s field home in 01:32:37.
Around 3,000 amateurs raced across both distances in the event’s first edition staged in Tamm, after the race ended its long run in central Stuttgart due to a loss of funding.
