Florian Sauer, 36, completed a remarkable amateur double on Sunday, storming to victory in the 118-kilometre ADAC Cycling Tour Classic through the Baden-Württemberg countryside around Heilbronn. Riding for Team Strassacker, Sauer crossed the line in 02:53:51, with teammate Marvin Schmid following 3 minutes later to secure second, ahead of Marco Peluso of Fratelli. It marks Sauer’s second major German gran fondo win of the season, having already topped the podium at the ADAC Velotour’s Taunus Classic in May, held alongside the Eschborn-Frankfurt professional race weekend. The event draws around 12,000 amateur participants and features the Großer Feldberg climb.
In the women’s Classic, Melina Fritz, 26, of Team Plasmatreat took the win in 03:19:11, edging Luxembourg’s Tanja De Rond by just 1 second, with Charlotte Tabbert completing the podium 2 seconds further back.
The shorter 58-kilometre Sprint route produced tight finishes throughout the field. Konstantin Hebes won the men’s race in 01:28:12, only 1 second clear of Radon Enduro Team’s Max Pfeil, while Sabrina Keller took the women’s Sprint in 01:39:12, a single second ahead of Nila Amrhein of Team France Bleu.
The event, staged on closed roads through Heilbronn, ran alongside the finale of the Lidl Deutschland Tour, giving amateur riders the chance to finish on the same line as the professional peloton — the highlight of Germany’s biggest cycling weekend.
