RADL GRVL, one of Australia’s highest-profile gravel events, will not run in 2027. Organisers announced the decision on the event’s Instagram account this week, calling it a difficult decision made after considerable thought while stopping short of ruling out a future return.
The Adelaide event was co-founded by South Australian professional Tiffany Cromwell and her partner, ten-time Formula 1 race winner Valtteri Bottas, alongside SBT GRVL owner Amy Charity. Staged during the Santos Tour Down Under, it formed the third leg of an international GRVL series alongside the flagship SBT GRVL in Colorado and FNLD GRVL — also now cancelled — in Bottas’ home city of Lahti, Finland.
The race grew quickly after its 2024 pilot edition sold out within weeks.
Its 2026 edition, held on 23 January 2026 in McLaren Vale, was the biggest yet, attracting 700 riders, and also served as the inaugural Oceania Gravel Championships. Recently retired WorldTour professional Romain Bardet won the elite men’s 127km race in 03:30:07 after a late solo attack, with New Zealand’s Cameron Jones claiming the Oceania title in second place, 54 seconds behind, ahead of American Alexey Vermeulen in third.
Australia’s Nicole Frain dominated the elite women’s race, also claiming the Oceania title after attacking within the opening 15km. She finished in 04:02:32, three minutes ahead of American Melisa Rollins, while home favourite Tiffany Cromwell completed the podium in third.
No reason has been given for the pause, and there has been no public indication of any safety, permitting or financial issues affecting the event. Organisers thanked riders, volunteers and partners, adding that they hope this “isn’t the end of the story.”
