The amateur cycling world is once again mourning the death of a young member of the peloton. Adrien Chipault, a 21-year-old French racer, was killed on Sunday 14 June 2026 when a car struck him at a crossroads in Louannec, in the Côtes-d’Armor department of Brittany, northern France. He died at the scene of the collision, according to regional outlet Le Télégramme.
Chipault raced for Team Côte de Granit Rose and was on a training ride when the accident occurred. The team takes its name from the famed Pink Granite Coast, a rugged stretch of coastline running through the very area where Chipault grew up and trained.
His career had been following a clear upward trajectory.
After two seasons with Morlaix Cyclisme Performance, he returned to Team Côte de Granit Rose last winter. When he first left for Morlaix at age 19, he had already posted notable results, including 17th place at the Circuit An Alléguen and 25th at the Ronde Finistérienne. Earlier in his development, he finished 15th at the 2022 Championnat de Bretagne Juniors.
The Comité de Bretagne de Cyclisme expressed deep sorrow, extending its condolences to Chipault’s family, friends, and teammates. The organisation described him as a passionate and promising young rider whose sudden loss leaves a tremendous void.
The incident remains under investigation by the local gendarmerie.
Chipault’s death is a stark reminder of the daily dangers cyclists face on open roads—dangers that extend far beyond the race peloton. Gran Fondo Daily News extends its sincere condolences to his family, teammates, and the wider Breton cycling community.
