Danilo Celano (ASD Team Go Fast) claimed consecutive titles at the 24th Gran Fondo Riccione, held on Sunday 3 May across 105 kilometres of rolling terrain through the Italian hills of Romagna, the Marche and the Republic of San Marino.
The 37 year-old former professional — a Tour de Langkawi and Giro dell’Appennino winner during a career that spanned 2010 to 2022 — proved strongest in a sprint finish at the Castello degli Agolanti in Riccione. Although a climbing specialist, he edged Stefano Zoppi (ASD Capitani Minuterie Metalliche) by 3 seconds after the pair shed Matteo Fontanelli (Team Passion Faentina) in the final kilometres.
Celano’s Go Fast teammates Francesco Pirro and Paolo Ciavatta completed the top five just over 3 minutes later.
Already on a roll with victories at Gran Fondo Via del Sale and Granfondo Tratturo Magno this season, Elisa Leardini (ASD Vibrata Bike 2005) dominated the women’s race from start to finish, winning in 3:11:05 — a margin of 14 minutes 27 seconds over Sara Massarutto (ASD Capitani Minuterie Metalliche). Leardini, 30, also clocked the fastest women’s time on the mid-race Cronoscalata della Pieggia climb at Mondaino. Debora Morri (ASD Probikers) placed third.
The event, founded in 1999 and now in its 24th edition, drew nearly 500 starters, with two-time UCI Road World Champion Gianni Bugno among the notable attendees at the start line on Viale Ceccarini.
