Belgian Shari Bossuyt (Team AG Insurance-Soudal) claimed a significant comeback victory on Stage 2 of La Vuelta Femenina on Monday 04 May, prevailing in a bunch sprint after a selective and attritional day of racing.

The 109.8 km stage from Lobios to San Cibrao das Viñas featured relentless rolling terrain, with a late climb thinning the peloton and setting up a sprint from a depleted front group. Bossuyt timed her effort decisively in the final metres to take the win in 03:01:02, edging Germany’s Franziska Koch, who finished in the same time and moved into the overall race lead.

The victory marks a pivotal moment in Bossuyt’s return to competition. The 25-year-old Belgian served a two-year ban following a positive anti-doping test for Letrozole in 2023. Although the French Anti-Doping Agency stated the positive result was likely due to unintentional actions, Bossuyt faced a long and difficult road to rebuild her young career. After serving her ban, Team AG Insurance-Soudal gave her a second chance, offering her a stagiaire position in 2025. The Vuelta win now signals her return and ability to compete at the sport’s highest level, combining sprint speed with resilience over demanding terrain.

For Bossuyt, the result represents more than a stage win—it confirms her ability to persevere under pressure. With confidence restored, she now emerges as a credible contender for further stage success as the race progresses.
