Florian Sauer and Pia Kummer took the top honours at the ADAC Velotour on Friday 01 May, the amateur gran fondo with 12,000 participants that runs alongside the UCI WorldTour Eschborn–Frankfurt professional race on Germany’s traditional cycling holiday.
The 103 km Taunus Classic, the longest of three available distances, takes in the ascent of the Großer Feldberg and the notorious Mammolshainer Stich — a combination that reliably shreds the peloton in the closing kilometres.
Sauer, racing for Team Strassacker, won the men’s race among 6,540 finishers with a time of 02:18:45 at 41.73 km/h. Tim Jäger (Sebamed Racing Team) finished 1 minute 38 seconds back, with Andre Reinlein (Team Velolease) a further 9 seconds behind. It is Sauer’s second Velotour victory having won in 2024.
In the women’s race, Kummer — racing under the Red Bull banner — won in 02:31:46 at 38.15 km/h from a field of 490 finishers. Lisa Forster (Bike2Màlaga) placed second, 1 minute 35 seconds back, with Clara Wuesten (well:fair cycling team) third, a further 6 minutes 20 seconds in arrears.
On the 85 km long Taunus Express, Alexander Steffens (AS Cycling Team) prevailed in 2:02:36. In the women’s race Kristin Plümer (HansaSoestRacing) won in 2:23:59. Nadine Faber took the 40 km Skyline in 1:03:46, while Nico Gremm (Delta IQ Racing) won the men’s race in 52:53.
The Tissot King and Queen of the Mountains titles — awarded for the fastest ascent of the Feldberg’s 11 km climb — went to Noah Jung (24:43) and Lisa Forster (28:52), adding the climbing prize to her second-place finish in the overall classification.
