Trinidad and Tobago’s cycling community is in deep shock following the death of masters racer Colin Wilson, affectionately known throughout the region as “Creepy,” who died on Saturday after crashing during competition at the 2026 Easter International Cycling Grand Prix at Skinner Park, San Fernando.
Wilson, 44, was competing in a six-lap masters category race when disaster struck. Attempting to avoid a fallen rider ahead of him, he made contact with the trackside fencing and sustained mortal neck injuries, according to the Trinidad Express. Despite prompt emergency medical attention at the scene and rapid transport to hospital, he did not survive.
The incident cast a shadow over what should have been a celebration of Caribbean cycling.The three-day event was being hosted alongside both the Caribbean Cycling Championships and the American Track Cycling Championships — a rare convergence of regional competition that had drawn considerable pre-race attention.
Wilson was no ordinary competitor, earning victories across multiple disciplines (road, time trial, and track) in Trinidad cycling, including the Elite Men’s National Criterium title and the President’s Cup Series twice.
Sport and Youth Affairs Minister Phillip Watts described him as more than a champion, calling him a pioneer who had inspired generations of young athletes in Trinidad and Tobago. His nickname “Creepy” was worn with pride across decades of local racing, and his presence in the peloton was a constant in T&T cycling.
