The birthplace of the Olympics will host a key stage of the L’Etape worldwide gran fondo amateur race series in 2023, starting and finishing under the iconic Greek columns of Ancient Olympia.

On 1 April amateur and professional cyclists will race on 150km (2 laps) gran fondo and 75km (1 lap) medio fondo routes through the Valley of Gods in Western Greece, with men and women competing for yellow (overall), green (sprinter) and polka-dot (king of the mountain) jerseys.

The KOM competition will take place on the Category 1 Ancient Pisa climb averaging 5.4% gradient over 11.5km.

Located 300km west of Athens, L’Etape Greece hopes to attract riders from all across the country and abroad to help promote sports tourism in Western Greece. “There is no better opportunity to promote the brand of Ancient Olympia,” said Tourism Minister Vassilis Kikilias, adding that he will saddle-up and ride L’Etape Greece.

L’Étape by Tour de France provides amateur cyclists the opportunity to experience the thrill of the professional style racing on closed roads with top level support. The series now includes 22 events around the world.
