While several hundred cyclists were participating in the 2022 UCI Gran Fondo World Championship Time Trial, a side event to the road race, over 1200 cyclists competed in the 12th edition of Europe’s biggest and most prestigious time trial race – ASVÖ King of the Lake on Lake Attersee in Austria.

In windy and rainy conditions, cyclists from 24 nations rolled down the starting ramp in Kammer on Saturday afternoon to race against the clock for 47 kilometers around the picturesque Salzkammergut lake.

30 year-old local rider Alexander Lemp was the fastest amateur, earning the King of the Lake title, royal robe and crown. He stopped the clock at 59:29, 18 seconds faster than Christoph Mitterbauer (59:47) and 31 seconds ahead of Patrick Wisinger (61:00). Six-time Race Across America winner Christoph Strasser (60:13), who was second last year, finished in sixth place.

Gabriella Thanner, 29, won the Queen of The Lake crown, completing the flat route in 65:53. Anna Kofler (66:13) was the runner-up, and perennial podium finisher Barbara Mayer (68:45) finished in third place.

In the highly competitive 4-person team time trial race, Radsport Team Gaimersheim I took the win in 61:24 with riders Wanke, Gassner, Kalintschenko and Geith.
