Six months after announcing the creation of the UCI Gravel World Series and UCI Gravel World Championships an official calendar of events has been released – and it’s a lot smaller than expected..

The new Gravel World Series includes just 12 events beginning in the Philippines on 3 April and includes two events in the United States and Australia, one in France, Poland, Sweden, Belgium, Italy, the Netherlands and Spain.

No location, venue or date was announced for the inaugural Gravel World Championships at the end of the season.

The top 25% of men and women from various age categories at the 12 events will qualify to race at the Gravel World Championships – if the UCI finds an organiser willing to host the worlds.

UCI president David Lappartient seemed ecstatic about finally getting his gravel series off the ground, “I am thrilled that we now have an exciting and rich calendar of gravel events for riders with an adventurous spirit who enjoy cycling on unsealed roads and paths. The UCI Gran Fondo World Series is incredibly popular, and I am convinced that this concept will be equally successful for the gravel format.”

With no current UCI rules governing gravel events, the UCI also announced professional riders will be allowed to participate and any type of bike without electrical assistance can be use at Gravel World Series events and the UCI Gravel World Championships.
