The first ever L’Etape Czech Republic by Tour de France took place on Saturday 28 August in Prague. Originally planned for 5 June, the amateur cycling race modeled on the Tour de France was delayed by three months due pandemic restrictions.
Just under 1500 cyclists participated in 130 kilometre gran fondo or 90 kilometre medio fondo routes that rolled through the beautiful Czech countryside.
28 year-old Pro rider Daniel Turek (Team Felbermayr – Simplon Wels) soloed to victory in 3:17:53 with a 43 second lead over second place rider Pro Michal Kollert and 2:03 over third place Pro Kristian Hynek.
Turek is having a stellar season, he won the KOM Mountains Competition at Sibiu Cycling Tour in July and the bronze medal at the Czech National Championship Road Race in June.
Martina Sablikova won the Women’s race in 3:32:29, finishing over 5 minutes ahead of Nikola Zdrahalova and Zuzana Bohacova who finished second and third respectively.
Jaroslav Kocurek (Men 2:24:45) and Tereza Beranova (Women 2:45:08) won the medio fondo races.
