The UCI Gran Fondo World Series announced its 14th race cancellation of 2021 as Japan declared a pandemic emergency and cancelled all outdoor events, including the UCI Niseko Classic gran fondo.
“At this time, the Niseko Classic Executive Committee has been ordered by the government to follow the declaration of emergency in Hokkaido and cancel the event scheduled September 12th,” Niseko Classic Executive Committee Chairman Satoshi Yoshida posted on social media.
The event would have been allowed cyclists one last opportunity to qualify for the still scheduled 2021 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships planned in Sarajevo, Bosnia in early October.
