The amateur one-day version of the Tour de France bike race, L’Etape du Tour, announced on Thursday that it has definitely cancelled the 2021 edition planned in Nice, France due to the difficulties caused by the ongoing pandemic.

Over 16,000 gran fondo cyclists were registered for sold-out 4 July race.

although lockdown is beginning to ease, the conditions necessary for the Étape du Tour de France to go ahead as normal and for us to be able to gather together to celebrate our passion for cycling will still not be satisfied. This is why, in agreement with the city of Nice, and after having studied the recommendations of the Alpes-Maritimes administration, we have decided to cancel the Étape du Tour de France 2021.

ASO

ASO, the organiser, plans to bring the even back 2022.  Riders registered for the 2020 or 2021 edition entrants will receive a full entry fee refund.
