Over 500 hobby cyclists and two World Champions participated in the 28th Corsa per Haiti Gran Fondo in Cividale del Friuli, Italy to help raise charity funds for one of the poorest and neediest Caribbean Islands on Sunday 16 May.

On a weekend full of Italian gran fondos including Granfondo Squali, Loa Gran Fondo El Diablo and Gran Fondo Mangia e Bevi, cyclists were eager to return to the popular Corsa per Haiti event on the Italian-Slovenian boarder. Although a charity event, the racing was intense and competitive at the pointy end of the peloton.

Gran Fondo World Champion Thomaso Elettrico traveled 160 kilometres through northeast Italy in 4:18:13 to earn victory, followed by World Amateur Time Trial Champion Matej Lovše from Solvenia in 4:18:17 and then Francesco Avanzo in 4:25:07.

Eva Zorman won the Women’s gran fondo race in 4:48:36 with Nicole Fedele and Katarina Novak sprinting for the final podium spots.  Fedele pipped Novak for 2nd place in 4:54:23.

The medio fondo distance race of 104 kilometres was won by Andrea Pisetta from Trentino, while Elisa Benedet won the Women’s race, just in front of Sara Casasola who is preparing for the upcoming Giro d’Italia Donne race.
