Mexico’s wine region of Parras rolled out the red carpet for just over 200 gran fondo cyclists on Saturday 20 February at Gran Fondo Parras.

Starting and finishing in Parras de la Fuente just west of Monterrey, cyclists raced for a $20,000 MXN cash prize in the 160km event, while riders in the 100km event raced for medals. Cash prizes were award as follows 1st $4000, 2nd 3000, 3rd 1500, 4th 1000 and 5th 500 for both the men’s and women’s fields.
Veteran rider Francisco Serrano narrowly beat youthful Fernando Gonzalez to win the $4,000 prize in 4:10:32, just 5 seconds ahead of Gonzalez.

Ana Cecilia Aldrete Mejia soloed to victory in 4:30:39 to also claim the women’s $4000 prize with Diana Laura Valdes Morales next at 4:33:40.
