The USA’s largest amateur cycling event, El Tour de Tucson, postponed from November 2020 to April 2021, is now off as officials now aim to hold race in the fall.
Race officials for event announced the decision was made “after carefully monitoring the ongoing public health concerns brought on by the coronavirus pandemic…and the communities through which the route passes.”
Pima County, Arizona where the race takes place is currently at an extremely high coronavirus risk level – the most severe.
The 38th edition of the race is now tentatively planned for Saturday 20 November 2021 in Tucson. Riders already registered for the cancelled 2020 or April 2021 races will automatically be entered in the November race.
With entry fees of $135 or more the race is one of the largest charity fundraisers in the Southwestern USA, that charity does not extend to the thousands of participants should the race be cancelled or postponed. The race has a strict “no refunds or transfers of rider numbers, registrations or events” policy.
