After a six month pandemic pause, the worldwide GFNY gran fondo race series resumed 30 August in the French Alps at GFNY Alpes Vaujany, albeit on a short course due to weather.

The night before the race GFNY issued the following statement, “The current weather forecast for tomorrow does not allow us to hold the long distance [115km] course as planned.  Obviously the weather could still change for the better, but we have to make a decision today so that we can offer you a safe and enjoyable race. And you need to know what to expect tomorrow.”

In rain soaked conditions, only 135 participants completed the modified 61km course with 2291m climbing from Vaujany to the top of Col de la Croix de Fer, which was last featured in the Tour de France in 2018.

Vincenzo Pisani earned GFNY victory by reaching the summit of Croix de Fer in 2:06:25, followed by Michiel Minnaert 2:10:56 and Frederic Glorieux 2:10:59.

Hannah Fandel finished in 2:37:21 to win the Women’s race, with Annalisa Prato just 15 seconds behind to claim second place and Sarah Audenaert in third.
