It is going to be typical Belgian February weather this weekend for the riders at the first two Spring Classic Cyclosportives – Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne on Saturday and then Omloop Het Nieuwsblad on Sunday.

For the fourth weekend in a row Europe will be hit by a storm, Storm Ellen, that is expected to batter Northern Europe – and cyclists – with high winds, 40mph gusts, downpours and temperatures in the low 40’s (F).

In other words, it will be a typical Belgian weekend for cycling.

For the Saturday’s Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne Cyclosportive it is expected to be cloudy with light rain at the start in Kuurne, but turning to downpours by noon.  Temperatures will be a Belgian balmy 49 degrees all day, but winds from 20-44mph will batter riders relentlessly.

Then for Omloop Het Nieuwsblad Cyclosportive on Sunday chances of rain are a bit lower, but much colder temperatures (40-44F) with 20-40mph wind and solid cloud cover will make perfect conditions for hardmen and women in the peloton to thrive.
