By order of the March Region and Emilia-Romagna Region of Italy, all public events have been cancelled due to COVID-19 Coronavirus threat, including Gran Fondo Ancona, Gran Fondo Po and Gran Fondo La Furiosa.
The President of the March Region issued the following statement: “The granfondo of 1 March in Ancona was canceled following the order of the Marche Region which until 4 March orders, among other things, the suspension of all public events, of any kind. This is part of a package of “measures to contain and manage the epidemiological emergency from COVID-19″. In the coming days, the decisions taken by the organizers regarding a possible recovery of the 2020 edition will be announced.”
The number of COVID-19 cases in Italy has tripled in the last two days to 374, with the bulk of the cases in the Lombardy region in Northern Italy known for gran fondo racing. The virus has killed 12 people so far, up from two reported deaths two days ago.
