Matteo Marini (AJO CYCLING TEAM ASD) tested positive for Erythropoietin Recombinant (EPO) and Ephedrine at the end of stage five of the 2019 Giro Sardegna Gran Fondo cycling race on April 25, 2019 in Cagliari, according to the Italian National Anti Doping Organization (NADO).

NADO has now issued a final ruling on the case and banned the gran fondo rider from the sport for 8 years, effective October 10, 2019 through July 9, 2027. In addition Marini forfeits all results from the race and must pay 378 euros for court proceedings.

The 47 year-old Marini finished 1st overall in the Medio M45-49 category (18 participants) and won two stages at the 6-day event on the Island of Sardinia.
