Launched in 2018 Fondo Cycling Circuit USA offered six gran fondo events in the USA – Davidson, NC; Akron, OH; Harrisburg, PA; Claremont, FL; Fredericksburg, VA and Ridgeland, MS.
Targeting cycling destination cities with strong entertainment, historical, cultural and recreational activities, FCC USA thought they had the right formula.
They even had Frankie Andreu, former professional cyclist, at Harrisburg.
Unfortunately, the gran fondos only registered ~200 riders each, while the last one on the schedule, Ridgeland, was cancelled.
As many promoters abroad have discovered, breaking into the unique USA gran fondo market is quite challenging, even when you have a strong track record of success. FCC USA is owned by Asdeporte who produces big events in Mexico including L’Etape Acapulco, IRONMAN, Spartan Race and the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series.
For 2019 Fonda Cycling Circuit USA is only offering their two most popular gran fondo events – Claremont, FL and Fredericksburg, VA – both in October.
Offering routes of 30 miles, 50 miles and 75 miles the events include several timed King of the Mountains (KOM) sections to add a fun competitive element. Mixing in a retail expo, food truck, craft beer festival and live music, FCC hopes to find the secret formula to gran fondo success in the USA.
