GFNY just might have a drug problem.

Once again, riders at the GFNY Championship event tested positive for banned performance enhancing drugs.

GFNY has announced that Felipe Mendez (COL) and Gabriel Raff (ARG) tested positive for the drug EPO at the May 19th Campagnolo GFNY World Championship event in an out-of-competition control.

The racers were randomly selected from group of  riders and will now be given lifetime bans from GFNY events.

7 GFNY riders have tested positive for banned substances over the last 8 years.

GFNY CEO Uli Fluhme, said: ‘It’s simple, you can’t catch cheaters if you don’t perform doping controls.”

Unfortunately, it seems GFNY only tests at the New York championship race and not at the other 18 GFNY events around the world where riders qualify to go to New York.

Without testing at every GFNY event, participants are now left wondering if race results are fair and valid, or if they’ve been cheated out of a chance to race in the championship event.

The 2 positive results this year from 60 tested riders means 3.3% used performance enhancing drugs, which could indicate in an event with thousands of riders there are still a lot of dopers out there.
