17 year old Gleb Karpenko (EST) finished 1st at the biggest cycling event in Eastern Europe, Tartu Gran Fondo Race, beating a strong field of professionals including 2019 Tour of Estonia winner Mihkel Raim. With a blistering 45kph average, Karpenko completed the 124 km race with a time of 2:45.12.
After 50 km 11 men were in the breakaway, which included 6 riders who raced the Tour of Estonia earlier in the week. Their lead over the peloton was a scant 38 seconds.
With 3 kilometers remaining, Karpenko attacked and soloed to his first Tartu Gran Fondo Race victory.
In the women’s division, Kelly Kalm won the event, finishing with a time of 2:49.01 and in 44th place overall.
A total of 1753 riders rode the 124km gran fondo event.
