You arrive early at a gran fondo, get your number and schwag bag, hurriedly get to the start line and hope you didn’t forget anything – like locking the car. Well, in Montebelluna, Italy at the Granfondo del Centenario this past weekend one rider who, in his haste, locked his car with the keys inside and relied on fireman to save the day.

Luckily, it didn’t ruin his gran fondo as he only discovered the keys were in the car afterwards.  The local fire brigade came to the rescue though and proceeded to open the cyclist’s car without causing any damage, helping him to recover the keys left inside.

Afterwards, the rider and fire brigade joined the gran fondo festivities at the post-ride pasta party.

It could happen to any of us, so we are withholding the rider’s name and license plate to prevent certain ridicule.
