A dangerous activelandslide at La Yolomba in Colombia forced organisers of El Giro de Rigo to reroute the event on Sunday 01 November, sending roughly 10,000 riders onto a shorter course through Valle del Cauca.
The slide, reported on the Cali-Buenaventura road, occurred while riders were approaching the mountainous area on the route from Cali towards the coast.
Thousands of riders queued on the road and were not allowed to proceed. Organisers said the change was necessary to protect participants.
Riders on the long Reto Salsa route, originally planned at approximately 180 kilometres, were instead directed onto the 68-kilometre Reto Caña course. Both groups finished at Acopi-Yumbo, at the Valle del Pacifico Events Centre. The detour removed Calima-El Darien, Restrepo, Yotoco and Vijes from the itinerary.
The field included Colombian cycling stars Egan Bernal, Jarlinson Pantano, Iván Ramiro Sosa and Rigoberto Urán, alongside former world road champions Peter Sagan and Rui Costa. Local outlet El País reported total participation of more than 11,000 in the sold-out cycling celebration.
This edition, billed as “La Sucursal”, also had a community mission. Organisers linked the event to support for areas still recovering from the earthquake on 10 August 2026, while Cali’s mayor’s office projected an economic impact of more than 90 billion pesos.
