Brazilian esports cycling star Gabriela Guerra will take her racing outdoors in 2027 after signing a two-year contract with Cofidis, the team announced on Tuesday 27 October.
The 32-year-old, a two-time silver medallist at the UCI Cycling Esports World Championships in 2024 and 2025, is Cofidis’s fifth recruit for next season. The deal runs through 2028, giving both sides time to assess the move over more than a handful of races.
Her route to the peloton is unusual. A former skateboarder, Guerra built her reputation on Zwift, the virtual cycling platform known for its thumbs-up “Ride On” encouragement. She finished second at the 2025 Zwift Games behind Kate McCarthy.
Her real-world road career began only recently. After joining the German Wheel Divas team on 31 August, she won the 2026 Müller – Die lila Logistik Cycling Bundesliga one-day race at Riderman in early September, attacking roughly 60 kilometres from the finish and holding off the chasers by 53 seconds.
Three weeks later, she soloed to victory at the 110-kilometre Mirabelle Classic in Bouxières-aux-Chênes, France, in 02:51:40. Émilie Morier (St Michel-Preference Home-Auber93) took second, 1 minute 3 seconds behind, with Cofidis’s own Victoire Berteau third on the same time as Morier. Guerra still held a lead of about two and a half minutes with 14 kilometres remaining.
Cofidis sporting manager Raphaël Jeune has acknowledged the uncertainty involved in signing her but is betting on her determination and late-season road form. The real tests will be adapting to racing in a professional bunch, performing consistently across successive race days and working for teammates.
Guerra says she wants to discover whether her e-cycling strengths translate to the road. In 2027, with thumbs-up encouragement from Zwifters, she will find out.
