Organiser ASO has unveiled the route for the 2027 L’Étape du Tour de France, with the Alps once again hosting one of the world’s best-known amateur cycling events. On Sunday 11 July 2027, alongside the Tour de France, around 16,000 riders will tackle 154 kilometres and 4,850 metres of climbing, starting in Cluses, Haute-Savoie, and finishing at altitude in Les Saisies, Savoie.
There is no gentle warm-up. Riders head straight onto the Col de la Colombière, a 15.9-kilometre ascent averaging 7 percent. From there, the route crosses the Aravis range, the Arly Valley and the Beaufortain region, with five major climbs in total.
The sting comes towards the end. After the Col du Pré, near Lake Roselend, participants face Mont Bisanne: 12.4 kilometres at an average gradient of 8.3 percent. It is the final major obstacle before the summit finish. Organisers stress that thorough preparation will be essential to complete the course within the time limit.
The key date for riders is Monday 02 November 2026, when general public registration opens at 14:00 French time. Prospective participants can prepare by creating a free Tour de France Club account, which organisers used for pre-registration. Places have historically sold out quickly, so riders should have their details ready.
The announcement coincides with the presentation of the 2027 Tour de France route in Paris. The professional race will begin in Edinburgh on Friday 02 July 2027.
