On Saturday 03 October, Austrian Daniel Hochstrasser set the fastest time at the 2026 UEC Granfondo European Time Trial Championships at the Tre Valli Varesine Granfondo in Varese, Italy, according to preliminary results. The 35-year-old won the men’s 35-39 category in 00:27:12 on the 22-kilometre out-and-back course from the Varese Ippodromo to Valganna. Germany’s Julian Braun won the men’s 19-34 category in 00:27:13, only one second slower.
Poland’s Ewelina Wołoś was the fastest woman, winning the 35-39 category in 00:31:35. Her compatriot Alina Mylka, who won the time trial last year, took the 40-44 category in 00:32:20. Switzerland’s Marcel Wyss won the men’s 40-44 category in 00:27:19, giving the Thömus Windowmaster by Wyss Training team two category wins.
The other men’s winners were Reidar Bøhlin Borgersen of Norway (45-49, 00:27:51); Ivan Alfonso Bufalino Maranella of Italy (50-54, 00:28:12), two seconds ahead of France’s Samuel Plouhinec; José Maria Olivés Parals of Spain (55-59, 00:29:46); Maurizio Sacchet of Italy (60-64, 00:31:07); Felix Widmer of Switzerland (65-69, 00:31:56); Frank Aadland of Norway (70-74, 00:32:46); and Frenchmen Christian Boeuve (75-79, 00:34:07), Claude Janus (80-84, 00:48:15) and Marcel Ève (85-89, 00:40:25).
The other women’s winners were Aurore Pauchet of France (19-34, 00:32:17) and Simone Steffen of Switzerland (45-49, 00:33:42). Switzerland’s Jutta Stienen won the 50-54 category in 00:33:23, just 0.02 seconds ahead of France’s Marina Tige. Belgium’s Marijke De Smedt took the 55-59 category (00:33:44), Italy’s Olga Capiello won 60-64 (00:35:21), and France’s legendary Jeannie Longo won 65-69 (00:35:16).
Britain’s Deborah Sheridan won the 70-74 category in 00:41:09. Margaret Docking, also of Britain, won 75-79 in 00:46:47, 1 minute 24 seconds ahead of Germany’s Maria Seefried.
Saturday’s race also served as an official 2027 UCI Grand Fondo World Championship qualifier, with the top 25 percent in each age and gender category earning a start for the time trial competition in Haute-Savoie, France next August.
The UEC Granfondo European Championship road races follow on Sunday 04 October 2026, with organisers reporting record participation heading into the weekend.
