Damien Girard, a former French professional cyclist, has died at the age of 24. His club, Team Estérel Côte d’Azur, announced the news late on Monday 28 September 2026. No cause of death has been made public.
The team described his death as sudden and remembered him as a friend and rider who loved cycling. It offered condolences to his family and loved ones.
Girard was born on 14 December 2001 in Tours. He first made his mark in 2018 as a junior, winning the opening stage of La Cantonale. He later rode for CC Nogent-sur-Oise, where he won the 2022 Tour Nivernais Morvan. That result earned him a place with Nice Métropole Côte d’Azur in 2023.
He rode for the team through 2025. In 2024, he won a stage of the Tour du Maroc and finished 10th at La Marseillaise. In 2025, he won the mountains classification at the Tour de la Provence, finishing 43rd overall. He also finished 17th at the Étoile de Bessèges.
Nice Métropole Côte d’Azur did not retain him, and he stepped away from top-level racing after the 2025 season. He had been licensed with the Team Estérel Côte d’Azur amateur club since the start of 2026.
