Warner Gamboa Carrillo topped the men’s field at the UCI CRC 506 Gran Fondo Costa Rica, held Sunday 13 September on the Jacó-Quepos-Jacó course along Costa Rica’s Pacífico Central.
Gamboa completed the 141.4-kilometre Gran Fondo route in 03:26:29 to take the overall win. Felipe Nystrom Spencer crossed 1 minute 52 seconds behind to finish second overall, with Diyer Rincón Gómez third, 1 minute 53 seconds back.
In the women’s Gran Fondo, Laura Solano Matamoros posted 03:28:25 to win outright. Yailin Gómez Sánchez followed 4 seconds later, while Karina Ulate Badilla rounded out the podium 6 seconds behind Solano.
Over the shorter 69.8-kilometre Medio Fondo for older age categories, newly crowned M55-59 time trial world champion Robert Nunes and José Herrera both clocked 01:52:25, with Nunes taking the win on the line and Herrera finishing second. Rubén Tinoco finished 2 seconds back. Vanessa Jop Jimenez led the women’s Medio Fondo in 01:52:40, ahead of Karol Vanessa Delgado Rivera by 2 minutes 11 seconds.
Sunday’s clean, dry conditions were a marked contrast to last year’s race, originally scheduled for Sunday 01 June 2025 but cancelled after Tropical Wave No. 4 brought heavy rain and winds of up to 80 km/h to the region.
Roughly 500 riders tackled the two distances this year, with the event counting as a qualifier on the UCI Gran Fondo World Series calendar for the 2027 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships in France.
