On Sunday, the Ötztaler Radmarathon seemed to step back in time to 2024, with Jack Burke and Janine Meyer repeating their performances from two years ago to once again stand atop the podium in Sölden, Austria.
Canada’s Jack Burke claimed his third Ötztaler Radmarathon title, powering to victory in the 45th edition of Austria’s iconic 227-kilometre, 5,500-metre alpine test over the Kühtai, Brenner, Jaufenpass and Timmelsjoch. Burke, who also holds an Everesting World Championship title, crossed the line in Sölden to set a new course record of 06:29:21, averaging 35.1 km/h.
Defending champion Daniel Federspiel of Austria could not repeat last year’s win, finishing second, 2 minutes 36 seconds behind Burke. Austria’s Miguel Brugger completed the podium, 4 minutes 36 seconds down.
In the women’s race, Germany’s Janine Meyer, widely regarded as one of the most successful riders on the alpine marathon circuit, extended her Ötztaler dominance with another commanding win — her fourth — stopping the clock at 07:15:46 to also set a new course record.
Compatriot Eva Schien took second, 12 minutes 24 seconds behind, with local rider Melanie Geiger finished third, 29 minutes 47 seconds down on Meyer.
The 2026 edition drew close to 4,000 starters from 40 nations and set a new record for female participation, with women accounting for 10.44 percent of entrants. The figure continues a steady rise in women’s participation in one of Europe’s toughest amateur cycling challenges.
