Austria’s Rene Pammer won the Arlberg Giro on Sunday 02 August, after finishing third last year, crossing the line in Sankt Anton am Arlberg, Austria, in 03:38:31 over the gruelling 142-kilometre route and its 2,400 metres of climbing, averaging 38.99km/h.
Pammer’s victory extends a strong run of form. The rider from St. Johann am Wimberg has been one of Austria’s most consistent amateur performers over the past year, taking the overall win at the Glocknerkönig ultra event in 2025 and, alongside training partner Christian Oberngruber, sweeping all seven stages of the 2025 TOUR Transalp as a two-man team. The pair also share an Austrian national title in the two-person Race Around Austria ultra-distance event. At Arlberg, Oberngruber finished second overall, 2 minutes 23 seconds behind, continuing their dominance of Upper Austria’s endurance scene—this time as rivals rather than teammates. Germany’s Sebastian Breuer completed the podium, 2 minutes 50 seconds back.
Austria’s Melanie Geiger claimed the women’s race title in a tight sprint, with Germany’s Eva Schien second, both riders stopping the clock at 03:59:44. Geiger, who races for LeXi Racing, arrived at Arlberg on the back of a strong result at June’s Dreiländergiro, where she won the Stelvio Vinschgau stage—covering 120 kilometres and 3,000 metres of climbing over the Stilfserjoch, Umbrail Pass and Reschen Pass. Germany’s Julia Schallau took third, 3 minutes 51 seconds back.
Now in its 14th year, the Arlberg Giro remains a fixture on the high Alpine gran fondo calendar, taking riders over the Arlberg Pass and the Silvretta Hochalpenstrasse. More than 1,400 riders competed, with many using the event as a final tune-up for the Ötztaler Radmarathon, whose 227-kilometre route with more than 5,500 metres of climbing takes place on Sunday 30 August.
