Aitor Azkarraga Garcia won the 180-kilometer gran fondo at La Indurain Marcha Cicloturista on Saturday 25 July 2026, crossing the line in 05:02:15 to top the men’s general classification through the hills of Navarra. The route, anchored by the Alto de Artesiaga climb, ranks among Spain’s toughest one-day gran fondos.
Pablo Piedrafita Sanromán took second, 2 minutes 35 seconds back, with Angel Vazquez Iglesias completing the podium just one second later. Vazquez Iglesias won the event in 2022, a title that drew scrutiny later that year when Spanish authorities named him in a Guardia Civil investigation into an alleged performance-enhancing drug ring. Although he has been sanctioned multiple times for anti-doping violations, the 46-year-old continues to compete on the Spanish amateur gran fondo circuit.
Fourth place went to a local rider with a professional pedigree. Asier Etxeberria Zafra, born in nearby Valle de Egüés, finished just 2 minutes 37 seconds off the winning time while riding for Pingtan International Tourism Island Cycling Team, a Chinese-backed UCI Continental squad. Etxeberria came through Navarra’s amateur ranks before spending three seasons with Laboral Kutxa, the Euskaltel-Euskadi development team, and turned professional with Euskaltel-Euskadi in 2022. Seeing him mix it with the amateur field so close to home added a professional edge to the front of the 180-kilometer race.
In the women’s 180-kilometer race, Sandra Alonso Dominguez rode to a commanding victory in 04:02:11, finishing 11 minutes 24 seconds ahead of France’s Naia Martin Normand, with Miren Josune Bikuña Zubia third.
On the 100-kilometer medio fondo route, France’s Karl Giret Baptiste Alexis outsprinted a trio of Spanish riders for the men’s victory in 02:40:07. Racing for Guidon Machecoulais, a small club from France’s Pays de la Loire region, Giret Baptiste Alexis is a regular on the French domestic amateur circuit and made the trip across the border count.
Isabel Asenjo Jiménez led the women’s field home in 03:15:10, finishing 2 minutes 15 seconds ahead of Ana Aznárez Ariño.
