UPDATE 24 June 2026: Police announced the arrest of 24-year-old Kishroy Harry in connection with the collision that left Tahje Browne hospitalised. Harry was apprehended at the airport while reportedly attempting to leave the country and was charged with dangerous driving, driving without the owner’s consent, driving without a valid driver’s licence, and driving without insurance coverage.
Antiguan national cyclist Tahje Browne, 18, is recovering in hospital after being struck by a vehicle during a Saturday morning training ride, his team announced.
The reigning Wadadli Cycling Academy standout, already with four wins this season, was riding westbound on Antigua’s Sir Sydney Walling Highway when an oncoming vehicle crossed into his lane and collided with him, throwing him from his bike.
Witnesses said the driver stopped briefly to check on Browne before fleeing the scene. Police are now reviewing security camera footage that captured the moment of impact and interviewing witnesses as they work to identify the motorist.
Emergency responders transported Browne to Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre, where he remains under observation. Antigua and Barbuda Cycling Federation president Eustace Matthew confirmed that doctors treated a deep laceration on his foot, but did not identify any broken bones or life threatening injuries.
Browne is regarded as one of the brightest prospects in Caribbean cycling. He won several of the Antigua and Barbuda Cycling Federation’s opening races of the 2026 season, represented his country at the OECS Cycling Championships, and competed in Europe with the Zappi Junior Development Team.
In 2025, he finished third in the individual time trial at the Caribbean Cycling Union Junior Championships, adding to a junior career that has included multiple national titles.
The investigation remains ongoing.
